Luther was passionate about music. "Beautiful music is the art of the prophets that can calm the agitations of the soul; it is one of the most magnificent and delightful presents God has given us." In 1538 he wrote „Vorrede auf alle gute Gesangbücher" (A Preface for All Good Hymnals) for Johann Walther's song book „Lob und Preis der löblichen Kunst Musica". This poem testifies to Luther's passion and reverence for music.
